Tracking Good FurnitureB&T Design.

How did you go about designing furniture?
I have gained all the experience about furniture by making the sale of the designs I made at the workshop in a boutique furniture store that I own as well as the second grade school in the university. This took about 5-6 years. The work I did was an extraordinary experience for me as well as earning my life during my student year. I think that a designer should think like a manufacturer and an operator at the same time and recognize the customer.

You have an important share in the uptrend of the B&T Design brand. How did you design the design strategy?
Before I worked with B&T Design, there was a strategy built on branding in the firm's decisions. So the mental infrastructure needed to align with the company and direct the design was already in place.

What do you think is "good furniture" or "good chair"?
For "good furniture" or any "good product" the total quality and total benefit is indispensable. I think that "good furniture" is the product that designs, manufactures, sells and receives the highest rating from the maximum benefit criteria for the space. The ability of the customer to choose good furniture is one of the most important equilibrium elements for all this to happen. That is to say, refined design, development of the designer after the good and growing the market are difficult, especially in the market where the concept of general appreciation is dominated by unnecessary ornaments.

How do you manage quality, design and price balance in B&T Design Furniture?
The design concept is often either expensive or perverse. At the beginning, we can say 'good design' for the product which can create sufficient quality and reasonable price range for the product market. But in my opinion, the main determinant in industrial production is your production partners as well as good suppliers, costomers and Häfele who have created cost and quality standards.

When you design a product or create a new collection, which criteria are you based on?
When designing a product, I believe that the operator should look at it first. If you do not earn the next step and the targets are always on paper. Concurrent concerns are related to professional ethics and persistence. The criteria for material and colors have to be completely innovative and industrial production, except for the daily trends. Naturally, the criterion that the product is 'related to the human' needs to be taken into account. In fact, Tanju Özel is very important to me. "If you express the design with a sentence, you will put the person into the essay" explains this very well.

Could you tell us about your new store concept and your last collection?
B&T Design now has a collection that meets the portable furniture needs of major projects both at home and abroad. With a decision we made in 2008, we decided to enlarge our products for our projects as well as a new structuring, collection and franchise in home furnishings. We prepared a collection that reflects our original house understanding with the new store made by Tanju Özelgin. The collection consists of all the products used in the house interpreted in line with the needs of the urban people who are looking for comfort and refined design. The positive reaction of this development, which has excited us quite, shows that we are on the right track.

MOSDER data shows that the market share of the furniture industry has reached 7.5 billion dollars. Can we say that the employed designer and the régee element are increasing at the same rate?
Yes the designers are the most conceivable people, especially after the crisis in the furniture sector, when everything is done to save the situation. But in this case, it would be wrong to call the crime only at the industrial site. Designers who can not be in peace with the industry, universities that can not produce realistic projects, politics that does not recognize the importance of design as a state policy, I think, are equivalent responsibilities of missed opportunities.

Unclear, indifferent 'under the stairs' companies are also one of the dilemmas?
I see it as potential smart firms of the future, despite the brand's lack of all the negativity of the firms under the stairs. Branded cumbersome companies are somehow trapped by this firm, they need to call themselves first. Because there is nothing in this process that has started in the eighties and we are still spending. For me, the opportunity and threat are still on par with each other. It is not only the firm that depends on the establishment of any well-established design culture like Italy. We do not have any streaks, and at least the crowds have to be increased to choose the best design.

A designer who believes that a good designer should think like a manufacturer and an operator also plays an important role in B&T Design's brand strategy and design management. With an approach that puts "human" into the focus of the design process, industrial production is concerned with designing innovative and appropriate products.
